Data Insights Analyst (Public Sector)

Permanent employee, Full-time · Washington D.C., Hybrid

ABOUT THE ROLE

World Data Lab is seeking to recruit a Data Insights Analyst to join our growing public sector engagements team. This role will focus on generating high-quality, policy-relevant insights for public sector clients, with the ultimate goal of scaling the uptake and impact of our WDI (World Data Intelligence) license offering across public sector clients.

The ideal candidate will work closely with our data science and business development teams to translate complex data into actionable insights tailored for public sector needs.  Contribute to client engagements by preparing analytical outputs, presentations, and briefings. Help shape the broader strategy for growing World Data Lab’s presence in the public sector space. This is a client facing role so active participation in client meetings, including presenting results and maintaining strong client relationships, is a core part of the role.

This is a unique opportunity for someone who is passionate about data-driven policymaking and eager to apply their technical skills in a mission-driven, global organization.

This role is best suited to candidates based on the U.S. East Coast, as the selected individual will work most closely with Dr. Reshma Sheoraj, WDL’s Senior Vice President of Strategic Engagements, who is based in Washington D.C. As the Strategic Engagements Team operates globally with hubs in the U.S., U.K., and Central Europe, the position is inherently hybrid. In-person meetings in Washington D.C. will be required (with 24 hours notice), so candidates located in D.C. or within train distance are preferred.
THE CHALLENGE
  • Data storytelling and visualization: Use softwares such as R to code and develop compelling visual insights by analyzing WDL’s datasets alongside external data sources. This includes sourcing relevant datasets, creating clear visual outputs, and weaving them into coherent narratives tailored to diverse audiences.

  • Technical and analytical project support: Provide hands-on support for data-focused client projects, including coding, data quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC), and bespoke impact analyses aligned with client needs.

  • Client servicing and support: Contribute to client engagement by preparing and delivering follow-up materials (e.g., decks and briefing notes), supporting technical questions during calls, and assisting with preparation for key meetings.

  • Cross-functional collaboration: Work with colleagues across WDL’s global hubs to strengthen the organization’s public sector sales pipeline and contribute to SDG-related projects, ensuring data-driven insights are embedded into strategy and delivery.

YOUR PROFILE
  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Economics, Statistics or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.

  • Strong academic or practical foundation in data science, coding, and quantitative analysis, with demonstrated ability to apply these skills in professional settings.

  • Proficiency in technical tools and programs, including R and Excel (experience with other programming or statistical languages is a plus).

  • Background in fields such as public policy, economics, or related disciplines that intersect with public sector research and analysis.

  • Prior work experience (minimum 3-5 years) applying data science and coding skills to real-world problems, ideally within research, analytics, or policy-focused environments.

  • Ability to translate complex data findings into clear, actionable insights for diverse stakeholders.

  • Strong data cleaning and processing skills, particularly with large, messy datasets.

  • Excellent knowledge of statistical and econometric methods.

  • Strong quality assurance mindset and attention to detail.

  • Effective communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate technical work into clear insights.

  • Collaborative team player, comfortable working across functions and international teams.

OUR OFFER
  • The opportunity to make an impact in a well-established big data SaaS scale-up.
  • Work with leading global public sector clients.
  • Be part of a diverse team of highly motivated and like-minded individuals.
  • Opportunity to shape your career through personal development plan supported by the growth opportunities.
  • A dynamic, inclusive environment where collaboration with colleagues across the globe is part of everyday life.
  • Hybrid working model.

OUR RECRUITMENT PROCESS
  • Initial Screening: A quick chat with our People & Culture Manager and senior team member(s) to understand your background and expectations.
  • 1st Interview: Technical interview with a future colleague to discuss your skills, experience, and expertise.
  • 2nd Interview: Meet the hiring manager and showcase your skills.
  • Final Steps: Receive feedback and, if successful, an offer.
We keep it simple and aim to wrap up the process within 3-4 weeks.

We encourage you to apply even if you only meet most of the requirements (but not 100% of the listed criteria) – we believe skills evolve over time. If you’re willing to learn and grow with us, we invite you to join our team!
